About Dr. Patricia Fioriello

Dr. Patricia Fioriello has over twenty years of experience in urban secondary education. The majority of her work has been in secondary reform with an emphasis on the literacy needs of diverse learners. She guides teams through the process of analyzing and assessing school needs while utilizing the appropriate decision making, conflict resolution and communication tools necessary to solve issues. Her unique position allows her to have an excellent understanding of both the operational and curricular needs of a school, making her able to effectively consult around current high school issues.

Dr. Fioriello launched her career as a teacher and coordinator in Los Angeles Unified School District. She then moved on to be an assistant principal in Desert Sands Unified School District in the Palm Springs area. Later she held positions as an assistant principal and high school principal in San Francisco.

Following this, Dr. Fioriello served as the Director of Secondary Programs in San Francisco Unified School District where she worked with a team around secondary reform issues which included the STAR (Students and Teachers Achieving Results) initiative, site plan reviews, summer and evening programs, and secondary literacy intervention. The team focused on providing school principals with feedback regarding instructional strategies and differentiation of curriculum.

Dr. Fioriello also worked for Oakland Unified as the Manager of Curriculum where she led a team of coaches specializing in English Language Arts and English Language Development. The teams developed coaching plans based on individual schools and included classroom observations, peer modeling, analysis of student work, and sharing of best practices. The department also provided district wide professional development in standards-aligned curriculum and placement and assessment of literacy intervention, strategic, and core classes.

During her career, Dr. Fioriello has received awards and numerous recognitions for her work with underperforming schools. In San Francisco, she received praise for her ability to lead very challenging high schools through change by forging positive relationships, developing communication channels, improving school climate, and providing appropriate curriculum and diverse strategies. Additionally, she was selected to participate in a year long ABC Nightline examination of first year principals.

Dr. Fioriello holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology, a Master's degree in Special Education and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership. She was born and raised in New York.
